Because of the stigma surrounding mental health, people are often reluctant to seek help and reveal the growing abyss of anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, and nightmares that accompany it. This stigma leads to the worst-case scenario, self-medicating. Now we have a co-occurring problem, the underlying depression and anxiety, but on top of that, an addiction to alcohol or drugs. That's when lives can unravel. Health, jobs and families suffer, and housing is lost. The process of recovery and healing is possible! Learn more about our housing programs below!
Our Place Safe Haven is located at 536 E. Thompson, Ventura 93001. It's a 18-bed emergency shelter that provides basic needs so people can work on turning their lives around. The most vulnerable receive mental health treatment referrals, assistance in establishing a stable source of income, and help with obtaining permanent housing. Drop-in services include hot meals, showers, laundry facilities, phone messages, mail delivery, and case management. We house homeless individuals throughout the County of Ventura from a variety of populations which include Veterans, TAY (Transitional Aged Youth), Seniors, along with individuals that are addressing mental health, substance challenges, and disabilities. We accept referrals by phone, walk-in or through agency partners at either One Stop location or our HMIS system. Programs that address issues surrounding homelessness including Street Outreach, Homeless to Home, and Health Navigator all address critical components that affect our community and are staffed from Our Place Safe Haven. Our Place Safe Haven serves as a significant and vital resource on the road to recovery for mental health issues and homelessness.

Permanent Supported Housing provides housing for people who were
homeless and mentally ill. These permanent housing programs are designed
to assist residents in developing community living skills, increasing
community integration, and achieving lasting residential stability.
The facilities are safe, secure, and affordable, located near transportation
or in a mixed commercial and residential neighborhood, close to community
resources and services. A house manager lives on site. The case manager
provides life skills and mental health services. Resident needs are
assessed, and a Housing Stability and Supportive Services Plans are
created. Weekly house meetings are conducted to address shared living
concerns. Our residents are expected to be involved in at least 20
hours of productive community activities and encouraged to utilize
mainstream resources to become more engaged in community activities.
In addition to receiving primary mental health treatment through Ventura
County Behavioral Health, residents may also attend nearby programs
at Turning Point's Oxnard Clubhouse (for rehabilitation services)
or the Oxnard Wellness Center (for peer support services).
Both the
WOOLEY HOUSE (15 single room occupancy units) & STEPHENSON PLACE (10 single room occupancy units) provide housing for Ventura County Continuum of Care referrals only.
VILLA CALLEGUAS - Villa Calleguas is a low-income HUD housing program that houses individuals who are living with a mental health disability. Single occupancy mental health independent living program. For more information contact 805-389-9664.
Turning Point Foundation's Street Outreach Program showed that Veterans are at least 20% of the homeless population and 30% of those were suffering from mental illness. Turning Point felt compelled to take action and we have expanded our programs to address the individual needs of our veterans bringing together all the social services in Ventura County creating a safety net of support for those that have given so much.
Turning Point's Vince St. Vet House is located at 43 E. Vince St., Ventura 93001. It provides transitional housing for up to 15 Veterans, with the goal of Veterans obtaining permanent housing placement within six months. If a Veteran has not found housing within that time an extension may be approved at the discretion of the V.A. and TPF Vince Street Veteran's transitional housing staff. Displaced veterans complete a thorough intake assessment to identify their areas of strength, vulnerabilities and needs. At the Vet house, veterans are given referrals to outside agencies & resources to focus on their needs, assistance with employment, completing housing applications, as well as direct case management services (that assit with building self-esteem and finding permanent housing) to better thrive in the community. Often a Veteran will experience issues with alcohol or drug addiction. These Veterans are offered referral services to assist them in making better choices and getting their life back on track. In the past year, 18 veterans were able to move into permanent housing through outreach and collaboration with our VA partners.

Not everyone with a severe mental illness is independent enough to thrive in permanent supportive housing. Some still need help with meals, laundry, and medications. Unfortunately, the disappearance of board-and-cares leaves many of these vulnerable people without an option.
We have a 92% retention in both residential facilities as we provide care and supervision for some intensive VCBH clients living in the community. Residents improvement (with care & supervision, medication support and in-house mobile wellness peer support groups) enable residents to get off conservatorships and become independent with a a better quality of life.
Our Program is an Augmented Board and Care through the VCBH Contract. We have no direct admissions. VCBH serves as the gatekeeper for our programs.
Thompson Place is located at 1681 E Thompson Blvd., Ventura 93001. It provides fully supportive housing and dedicated care to 26 residents.
